Print

The greatest danger to print as a medium of communication is not its replacement by other technologies, but the replacement of abstract thought by other media distractions.

We need print. We need to curl up with books and enter the abstract worlds of ideas they can create. We need business cards, and brochures, and yes, even an occasional mailer.

Print is low-tech, easy to distribute, user-friendly, and accessible. Often, it remains the perfect medium of communication, where ideas matter and substance is warranted.

Dick Kindig began as a typographer and then became a printer; so we understand the medium as few younger designers possibly could. When you need something written, designed, and photographed for print (as well as the web, its cousin on steroids), call Kindig Omnimedia. Remember: trees are a renewable resource; but no one can replace missed communication opportunities....

Success Stories was our solution to the challenge posed to us by Northwest Technical College. Their consulting group had established a track record of success in helping Minnesota and North Dakota businesses launch new initiatives, recruit new people or train local folks in a new process. Our work was a success story of its own: everything from concept to completion of the negatives for the printer, including outstanding writng, photography, design ... even the color separations. Road Map to the Better Catalog is a quirky but entertaining way of solving a communication challenge Kreber has long faced: how can you sell a "different animal" -- a skill set and deliverable that no one knows even exists, and haven't seen the need of?

Our concept, which we wrote, designed, and photographed, was to escort clients from wherever they are in the geography of catalog production to a whole new territory, where the assets reside in a well-managed database, and one-to-one marketing is a viable possibility. Northwest Technical College came to us first for a marketing plan and TV spots to promote their 5-campus technical program. The concept we came up with was "Go Northwest -- Get there Faster."

The next year, we created a viewbook which featured the distinctive advantages of technical education and the Northwest facilities. The third year, we borrowed from the design elements we created in the viewbook to create 18 departmental brochures, featuring in greater detail what students could expect in specific careers, and how Northwest would prepare them for those careers. Our client enjoyed great success with these communication pieces.

More is Less is our creative idea for Kreber's flagship brochure. Acting as writer and creative director for Frank Clay, Gary Green and the Kreber staff photographers, we created a series of vignettes that applied appropriate twists to the phoneme "mor".

Clever, incisive and very attractive, these brochures helped Kreber make a statement to the advertising-oriented world of their high-end prospect pool. Click to see inside spreads.
